Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how SoftwarePilot LLC ("SoftwarePilot," "we," "us," or "our") handles information in connection with this website (softwarepilot.net) and our applications, including Finance Pilot, our personal finance app for iOS, Android, and the web. We build our products to collect only the information needed to make them work, and your financial data is used to provide the app's features to you — nothing else.

This website

This website is a static informational site. It does not use cookies, does not include advertising or analytics trackers, and does not ask you to create an account. Our hosting provider may keep standard server logs (such as IP address, browser type, and pages requested) for security and operational purposes.

Information you provide in Finance Pilot

• Account information — when you register we collect your name, email address, and a password. Passwords are stored only as a salted cryptographic hash; we cannot read them.
• Financial information you enter — Finance Pilot stores the data you add to use its features: transactions, budgets, subscriptions, savings goals, assets and liabilities, income and salary-allocation rules, tax tags, and buy-now-pay-later plans.
• Payment card details — if you add a card for card recommendations or virtual-card tracking, we store the card name, network, issuer, and the last four digits only. We never collect or store full card numbers, CVVs, or bank account and routing numbers.
• Household information — if you create or join a household, we store the household membership and the transaction categories the household has chosen to share (see "Household sharing" below).
• Notification and feature preferences — such as which alerts you want and whether location-based recommendations are enabled.

Linked financial accounts (Plaid)

When account linking is available and you choose to connect a bank or card account, the connection is made through Plaid Inc. You provide your banking credentials directly to Plaid — we never see or store your banking credentials. Plaid shares with us the information needed to provide the app's features: the institution name, account name and type, the account's masked number, balances, and transaction history. Plaid's handling of your information is described in the Plaid End User Privacy Policy. You can unlink a connected account at any time in the app, which stops further data collection from that institution.

Location information

Finance Pilot's Card Pilot feature can recommend the best card to use at stores near you. If you grant location permission and keep the feature enabled:

• The app uses your device's precise location only while the app is in use — it does not track you in the background.
• Your coordinates are sent to our servers solely to find participating merchants near you. We do not keep a log of your raw coordinates.
• When you visit a recognized store, we record the store, its category, and the time of the visit so the app can show your rewards activity. This store-visit history is kept for up to 90 days and then deleted.

You can turn off location features at any time in the app or in your device settings, and you can delete your location history from within the app or by contacting us. The rest of the app works without location access.

Information collected automatically

Our servers keep request logs — IP address, device/browser user agent, timestamps, and the API endpoints accessed — for security monitoring, abuse prevention, and troubleshooting. Finance Pilot does not include third-party advertising, analytics, or tracking SDKs.

Biometric authentication

You can optionally lock Finance Pilot with Face ID, Touch ID, or your device's fingerprint. Biometric verification happens entirely on your device through Apple's and Google's operating-system services — we never receive, store, or transmit your biometric data. The app only learns whether the check succeeded.

How we use information

We use the information above to provide Finance Pilot's features (budgeting, insights, card recommendations, household sharing, and the rest), to keep your account secure, to respond to support requests, to maintain and improve our products, and to meet legal obligations. We do not sell personal information, we do not share it for third-party advertising, and we do not use your financial data for marketing.

Household sharing

If you join a household in Finance Pilot, your name and your transactions in the categories the household has chosen to share (for example groceries or utilities) are visible to the other members of that household. Transactions outside the shared categories are not visible to them. You can leave a household at any time, and inviting someone reveals your name to the person you invite.

Sharing with service providers

We share information only with the service providers that host and operate our products, and only so they can process it on our behalf:

• Microsoft Azure — cloud hosting for our backend services.
• MongoDB Atlas — managed database hosting for application data.
• Plaid — bank account connections, as described above, only if you link an account.

Beyond that, we disclose information only when required by law, or to protect our rights and the safety of our users.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit using TLS. Passwords are hashed with bcrypt. On your device, authentication tokens are stored in the iOS Keychain or Android Keystore. The app supports optional two-factor authentication (TOTP) and biometric app lock, and our services enforce rate limiting and access controls. No system is perfectly secure, but we design for security from the start and limit what we collect in the first place.

Data retention and deletion

We keep your information for as long as your account is active. Store-visit location history is kept for up to 90 days. You can export your data from within the app at any time.

You can delete your Finance Pilot account and its data at any time — see our account deletion instructions. Deletion requests are completed within 30 days. Server logs are retained for a limited period for security purposes, and we may retain minimal records where the law requires it.

Children's privacy

Our website and applications are not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Finance Pilot is intended for adults. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete personal information we hold about you. Finance Pilot provides in-app data export and account deletion; for anything else, contact us at the address below and we will respond in accordance with applicable law.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the effective date above and post the updated policy on this page. For material changes affecting Finance Pilot, we will also provide notice in the app.
